September 22 through 29, book lovers buzzed around downtown Little Rock, meeting authors, hearing behind-the-scenes stories, and scooping up copies of books; during all this, there were many moments of connection, learning, and joy. Over 8 days, CALS hosted 35 free public programs (most of them at CALS locations); welcomed 5,600+ audience members and students;

October is bringing the books and the booooo’s. With so many free activities to choose from, you’ll find yourself returning to CALS again and again this month.

1. Finish off Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) with an art project with local artist,

Many CALS branches are voting locations, so hopefully you already think of us when you think of your civic duties, and now we’re here to help you become a registered voter. You can pick up a voter registration any time at your most convenient library branch,

We recently caught up with two of the authors who will be at the CALS Six Bridges Book Festival at the end of next month. Eli Cranor is no stranger to the Fest, as this will be his third book and his third visit.

The work at Main is making steady progress. We blazed through the demo and are working on putting our flagship location back together. We have several thoughtful design elements that we are excited about, including the large “LIBRARY” at the top of the building that will be viewable from street level as well as from the rooftop space that will be added.

It’s time to get back to the books! And not just the ones in the classroom. CALS has everything you need to make it through the month, whether you’re writing a research paper, binging movies on hoopla or Kanopy, or just enjoying a much-needed weekend reading session. Work or play, CALS saves the day!

September is Library Card Sign-up Month. And at CALS, we have long proclaimed the library card to be the most valuable card in your wallet.
