Pitches and Dreams at the Rock It Lab

On Thursday, May 30, the air was electric in the historic Cox Building, the home of the Rock It! Lab; not just from the lively tunes being played by DJ Swift 720, nor the food from Afrobites (although it was delicious), but from the excitement of listening to five soon-to-graduate individuals taking part in the pitch competition.

CALS Volunteers Help Turn the Page!

April 21-27 is Volunteer Appreciation Week and CALS wants to express a huge THANK YOU to our wonderful volunteers. Close to 800 volunteers donate their time to the library regularly throughout the year. We currently have 1,296 volunteers on file at CALS. This past year, we had 668 volunteers donate 12,697.25 hours, for a cost savings of $403,772.55 to the library system.

CALS staff published in Arkansas Historical Quarterly

CALS staff members, Guy Lancaster and Brian Robertson recently had articles published in the Arkansas Historical Quarterly, a peer-reviewed journal of the Arkansas Historical Association.

The Arkansas Historical Quarterly, established in 1942, is the scholarly journal of the Arkansas Historical Association. It publishes research on every aspect of Arkansas’s history, from earliest human habitation to the twenty-first century.

The future of the CALS Used Book Sale

Earlier this year, CALS announced that Main Library would be closing temporarily to undergo an extensive renovation. That change created a domino effect of moves and adjustments, including (but not limited to) the closing of the Galleries & Bookstore so that Main Library services could move into that space (read about the move here).

Yuyi Morales opens temporary exhibit at Children’s Library

On Saturday, October 14, renowned children’s illustrator and author, Yuyi Morales, spent the day at the CALS Children’s Library where her exhibition, Soñadora, will be on view until November 15. Yuyi; Brad Mooy, Six Bridges Book Festival Coordinator; Carlos Ignacio Giralt Cabrales, Consul of Mexico in Little Rock; and a few children from the audience helped open the exhibition.
