Full-Time Positions

ASSISTANT MANAGER, TECHNICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT — Full-time position (40 hrs./wk.) in the Technical Services Department at the Main Library. A successful candidate will assist in providing leadership to staff, troubleshooting and solving problems, and setting a positive tone. Approach to leadership must be collaborative, kind, and team oriented. Primary duties include cataloging a variety of print and non-print materials using Sierra, SkyRiver, DDC 23, Library of Congress subject headings, and MARC 21. Additional duties include monitoring department workflow, producing monthly department statistics, and managing various short-term projects. Careful attention to (and high tolerance for) detail required, and familiarity with any of the above tools is desirable. To be eligible for this position, applicants must have experience in either management or cataloging with a strong preference given to applicants with experience in both areas. Candidates should have excellent computer and organizational skills and ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Salary range starts at $21.23 and includes excellent benefits such as medical, dental, vision, company paid pension, life insurance, paid time off, and holiday pay. ASSISTANT BRANCH MANAGER—Full-time public service position at the Maumelle Library, 10 Lake Pointe Drive, Maumelle AR 72113. A successful candidate will assist in providing leadership to staff, troubleshooting and solving problems, and setting a positive tone with the library and with the staff. Ability to handle problematic behavior and situations with ease and a good attitude is essential. Candidate will take part in program planning and coordination. Experience working with adults, children, teens, and large groups is preferred. Ability to balance a wide array of tasks that range from management and scheduling to patron and staff support, as well as day-to-day library operations, is required. Approach to leadership must be collaborative, kind, and team oriented. Familiarity with technology and digital media, the ability to provide instructional assistance on devices, and excellent communication and customer services skills required. LIBRARY ASSISTANT– Full-time public service position, 40 hours per week at the Sanders Library in Sherwood, AR. This position requires a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and high energy. Essential duties and responsibilities include assisting patrons on the circulation desk, at self-service kiosks, and throughout the library space as needed, as well as all day-to-day tasks performed by library staff. Willingness to assist with crowd control during after-school hours, to enforce rules of conduct, and to assist in any other way needed to help library staff maintain order during crowded and busy times in the library is essential. Other duties include shelving library materials as well as checking materials in and out, answering patron questions, registering patrons for library cards, information searching, and basic computer troubleshooting. Applicants must be available to work some evenings and weekends and have reliable transportation. HOUSEKEEPING TECHNICIAN – Central Arkansas Library System seeks a full-time 40 hour per week Housekeeping Technician to perform upkeep and cleaning at CALS facilities. Essential duties include cleaning restrooms, floors, glass, furniture, emptying trash cans, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, and other duties as assigned. Some experience required, must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and have a positive attitude. Starting salary $15.00/hour plus excellent benefits such as medical, dental, vision, company paid pension, life insurance, paid time off, and holiday pay.  Interested applicants must be able to work Monday,Wednesday,Friday 5:30 a.m. to 1:30pm and Tuesday and Thursday 5am-1pm and some weekend hours required. Part-Time Positions

LIBRARY ASSISTANT – Part-time (20 hour/week) public service position at the Sanders Library in Sherwood, AR. Essential duties and responsibilities include assisting patrons on the circulation desk, at self-service kiosks, and throughout the library space as needed, and all day-to-day tasks performed by library staff including shelving library materials, checking materials in and out, answering patron questions, registering patrons for library cards, information searching, and basic computer troubleshooting. This position requires experience with technology, the willingness to enforce rules of conduct, excellent communication, customer service, and attention to detailApplicants must be available to work every other Saturday and some evenings. Salary range starts at $15.37 per hour and benefits include paid time off, holiday pay, and eligibility to participate in the CALS 457 retirement plan. Temporary / Seasonal Positions

CALS COUNT UP CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AMERICORPS VISTA (full-time/30 hrs per week) Count Up is a K-12 math tutoring program housed within CALS’s Children’s branch. The program is student-driven and research-based, currently serving 70 students in Pulaski and Perry Counties. The program is breaking the cycle of poverty by providing educational support and alleviating learning loss in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Count Up Curriculum Development AmeriCorps VISTA’s focus area falls under AmeriCorps’s Education priority. The VISTA will function in a capacity building role, creating promotional materials for the program, connecting with local educators, developing curriculum best practices, and reporting on program performance. Candidates must be willing to complete a background check and be able to start on May 8, 2023, and work through May 5, 2024. VISTA members have the choice of receiving an education award or an end of service stipend and receive up to 20 paid days off during their service term. VISTAs typically work 30 hours per week. We are currently recruiting BE MIGHTY VISTA SUMMER ASSOCIATES for Children’s, Main, Dee Brown, McMath, and Nixon branches (seasonal/ 30 hrs. per week). The deadline to apply is April 14, 2023 for a service term of May 22, 2023 – July 30, 2023. Be Mighty Little Rock is a citywide anti-hunger campaign with a mission to reduce food insecurity. Be Mighty connects kids and teens to USDA meals and provides opportunities for nutrition education and resources for the whole family. Be Mighty VISTA Summer Associates will support these efforts by serving USDA meals; connecting patrons with information and local resources; promoting and distributing food security screenings; creating content and preparing grab & go activity kits; and assisting in CALS teaching gardens. Benefits include a bi-weekly living allowance in the amount of $675 every two weeks, limited leave and the choice between an end-of-service summer award stipend that is pro-rated based on the days worked or an education award of $1,459.26.
