What Are You Reading? Janelle Lilley
I’m the weekend news anchor and a reporter for KATV Channel 7 in Little Rock. I moved to Arkansas in 2011, so I feel very at home in the Natural State.
What are you reading at the moment or what is next on your list?
This year, I started a book club with some friends. We just finished The Silent Patient, and everyone in the group loved it. Some members finished it in 24 hours because they just couldn’t put it down! I won’t give you any spoilers but be prepared for some sharp turns toward the end of the book. We all started the book expecting a twist, but none of us predicted the ending!
What children’s book do you wish every child could read?
My little boy’s favorite book is Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae. He loves the colorful pictures and the lyrical words, and I love the moral of the story: Ignore the bullies and let your self-expression loose because we all can dance when we find the music that we love.
What book or other media do you keep coming back to again and again?
Outside of my book club, I tend to read a lot of non-fiction, and one of my favorite books is Whistlestop by John Dickerson. It’s about all the intriguing political campaign stories that reporters tell one another while covering elections. What I especially love about the book is that it reminds me that when it comes to politics, there is nothing new under the sun. It’s filled with interesting anecdotes about the founding fathers and former presidents that are fun to share when folks are discussing current presidential politics.
