In 2014, the Central Arkansas Library System and Horn Foundation commissioned a sculpture from the renowned artist Alice Guffey Miller to go on the grounds of the CALS Hillary Rodham Clinton Children’s Library & Learning Center. Miller engaged a group of friends and artists to help her create the Imagine Peace sculpture using an oak tree as the base and reclaimed metal to create a bird and flower petals.
The switch from the old CALS catalog (BiblioCommons) to the new one (Vega Discover) has brought about a bit of confusion. At the core, both catalogs offer the same basic functions, but there are some things Discover does that BiblioCommons doesn’t, and some things BiblioCommons does that Discover doesn’t, or at least doesn’t yet because it is still being actively developed.
My name is Sylvia Blain – I am 53 years old and live in Central Arkansas with my long-time partner, Shannon Sanders, and our pup, Tucker. I am the mother of two grown sons living in the Bay Area. I am the executive director at Potluck Food Rescue, a role that brings me a lot of satisfaction and growth.
Recently I dropped in on an event where CALS Library staff handed out new backpacks and school supplies to young students who were anticipating their new school year. Back to school is really where the Library shines; in the classrooms, sharp pencils and fresh notebooks meet to record nuggets of knowledge. And here in our branches,
