Simultaneous reads available!

 

Have you ever tried to download an ebook only to be told that you have to wait? It doesn’t make sense – how can multiple people not use a digital file at the same time? You would think that’s the main benefit of a digital book over a physical one. Unfortunately, CALS has to pay higher rates for ebooks and they are still checked out the same way as a physical book – one at a time. Thankfully, OverDrive (the company that owns Libby, the app CALS uses for ebooks and audiobooks) has opened up simultaneous reads for 200 popular titles in Adult Fiction and Nonfiction.

From OverDrive, “OverDrive is committed to providing your library with no cost, simultaneous access collections to help meet increased demand for digital content. As part of our Everyone Reads program, OverDrive will donate a collection of over 200* simultaneous use Adult Fiction and Nonfiction titles at no cost to your library.
The collection includes ebooks and audiobooks from leading publishers with simultaneous access through January 31, 2025.”

This means that there is no waiting on many popular titles which is great if you want to read something now or if you want to grab a last minute title for your book club. So get out and get reading. These titles will become available on February 8.
