The Buffalo River has a history as winding as its 153-mile path. The lower 135 miles of the river, from Ponca to the White River, flow within the boundaries of an area managed by the National Park Service, where the stream is officially designated the Buffalo National River. Jordan Johnson, Grants & Development VISTA, reflects on her experience with VISTA and CALS. Johnson is one of four VISTA members currently serving at the library.
March is Women’s History Month—offering CALS a chance to celebrate the women who have made libraries what they are today in the state, nation, and world. Nationwide, 84% of librarians who are employed as degreed professionals are women. And in our modern times, stereotypes of the matronly, shushing librarian are being thrown out the window.
