Top Ten Things to Do in December
December gets off to a rockin’ start on Friday, December 6, with The Normal Noises: A Tribute to Tom Petty. Currently celebrating the 30th anniversary of Petty’s iconic album Wildflowers, this tribute band delivers an authentic and electrifying experience, paying homage to the legendary sound of Tom Petty.
This year, the Food for Fines food drive will run for two weeks, December 8-21, and each item will offset $2 worth of fines (versus the $1 offered in previous years). Most donated items will be kept at CALS to stock the Little Free Pantries. During Food for Fines, patrons are invited to bring non-perishable food and personal hygiene products to a CALS library to offset overdue fines on their accounts; patrons may bring up to 10 items to offset up to $20 worth of fines.

2FAN (2nd Friday Art Night) at Rock It! Lab on Friday the 13th is always fun and inspiring! This month you can grab a professional printed photo with Mr. & Mrs. Claus (Marlene and Ric Gremillion), or free selfies with Santa. Free nibbles and drinks. Free parking in the library lot or deck. Free crafting and free entertainment. What else could you ask for?
The Library Speakers Consortium is presenting two virtual discussions this month that you’re sure to enjoy. First up is Unearthed: Exploring the Smithsonian National Gem Collection w/ Dr. Jeffrey Post on Wednesday, December 4. On December 11, join us for On Pulse-Pounding, Family Driven Mysteries: A Conversation with Laura Dave.
In a few days, CALS will unveil the Holiday Journey! You already know what CALS has to offer but we invite you to share that experience with a friend! Choose the digital path to send a selection of offerings and important links highlighting the many amenities of the library. Choose physical gift, and your friend can receive the digital gift PLUS a special package mailed directly to them!

A special New Year’s Eve event for preschoolers through 5th graders will take place at Terry Library on December 31! Join us at 11:30AM for Noon Year’s Eve story time, snacks, crafts, and a balloon drop!
