Mapping Downtown Little Rock History

Have you ever looked around downtown Little Rock and wondered about its architectural history? Perhaps you’ve seen some of the vacant spaces and thought to yourself, “I wonder what used to be there?” Well, now some of those questions can be answered. The CALS Butler Center for Arkansas Studies has created a mapping project that utilizes Google Earth to reveal the architectural history of downtown Little Rock.

Rock It! Lab rocks on after successful ribbon cutting

 

 

On Thursday, July 22, onlookers cheered as Benito Lubazibwa, Director of ABE (Advancing Black Entrepreneurship) cut the ribbon held by CALS Executive Director Nate Coulter,  Mayor Frank Scott Jr., and Andre Webster. Guests were invited to tour the Cox Building, previously housing the bookstore, as the new home of the Rock It!

What’chu Eatin’ Wednesdays

Wednesday is arguably the saddest day of the week. It’s not called “Hump Day” for nothing. Thankfully, the Galleries & Bookstore at Library Square is launching a tasty new reason to visit the Library Square- What’chu Eatin’ Wednesdays! Every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or until sold out) they’re hosting a new food truck.

Branch manager named “Sherwood Woman of the Year”

Ginann Swindle is the branch manager of the Amy Sanders Library. She has worked for the Central Arkansas Library System for twenty-six years.  Ginann grew up in North Little Rock and Searcy, Arkansas, and attended Harding Academy and Harding University.  After graduation she accepted a job with the Jonesboro Public Library as Mobile Outreach Librarian.

Food for Fines

Shed unwanted library fines this holiday season. The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) is continuing its tradition of helping those in need by holding its annual Food for Fines event from Monday, November 30, through Monday, December 7.

Food for Fines gives patrons an opportunity to help others in central Arkansas and to reduce fines for overdue library materials.

Poll Champs 2020

Democracy can’t survive without you.

This is no exaggeration. Pulaski County faces a serious shortage of poll workers to run the general election on November 3, 2020. The Pulaski County Election Commission recently put out a call for poll workers, and CALS is helping spread the word in a nonpartisan, publicly funded effort to support our elections.
