9th Annual Banned Books Writing Contest

Construct a short narrative that illustrates true, supportive friendship, where one character is daring to achieve something despite a very large obstacle. The story should feature or mention at least three characters. Please do not indicate or specify how the story illustrates friendship, it should be evident. This should be one episode of what could possibly be a larger story.

Entries will be judged on flow, originality, and strength of character/character voice. Humor is appreciated.

Rules:

Submissions should be 250 to 1000 words, typed. One entry per person. If emailing, include your name, address, email and telephone number in the message and then please do not include it on your entry. If mailing, include a cover sheet with that information, but again, do not include identifying information on the submitted materials. We try to keep the entries anonymous when sending the stories to the judges. Also, please include a note indicating if your story can be shared. Entries will be accepted beginning Sept. 1 through Sept. 14. If mailing a hard copy, be sure it is postmarked by Sept. 9. The winner and honorable mention from the 2021 Banned Books writing contest are ineligible to win. The two prizewinners will be announced during the Banned Books public program on Thursday, Sept. 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Ron Robinson Theater. We encourage folks to attend, though you do not have to be present to win. Those names will be posted to Six Bridges Book Festival’s social media the next day.

Prizes:

First Prize-$400. Honorable Mention: $100.
