The Enchanting Realm of Reading Dragons

Seeking a whimsical reading incentive to spark your little ones’ imaginations? Look no further than the enchanting realm of Reading Dragons! This magical program creates an even playing field for readers of all abilities, rewarding them for the precious moments they dedicate to the world of books.

Children may face challenges in their reading adventures, as skills blossom at unique paces. For those who encounter obstacles like dyslexia, the journey can be particularly daunting. The heart of this initiative is to inspire children to read consistently, allowing them to build their reading prowess, brick by brick, at their own rhythm while discovering the joy that stories can bring.

Born from the creative minds of Librarians Liz Strauss and Mallory Thompson at the Dover Public Library in Ohio, Reading Dragons and Friends has since been embraced by Kelly Robertson, Youth Programmer at Children’s Library. The program has flourished thanks to the collaborative spirits of imaginative librarians worldwide.

So, what are these captivating Reading Dragons, and how do they kindle a love for reading?

They are collectible, playable cards adorned with mythical beings like dragons, unicorns, griffins, and more! Caregivers set the time for the Fireflighters to earn these magical cards. With their collections, they can engage in games and even craft their own unique cards. This enchanting program resonates with kids who revel in Pokémon, virtual pets, trading card games, and all things fantastical. And the magic doesn’t stop there—many of our collaborators offer this wondrous program for patrons of all ages!

Reading Dragons will meet at Children’s Library (4800 West 10th Street, Little Rock) at 2PM every other Friday, beginning on June 13. Meetings are not required for participants, just extra fun!
