It’s summer in Central Arkansas and you know what that means – warm (ok, let’s be real, HOT) temps and kids with extra energy to burn off. CALS has five ways to help beat the summer boredom. There are of course the obvious things you can do at the library like check out books and read in a corner until you go home and read some more (was that only me as a kid?) but CALS has so many other ways to have fun all summer long,
Summer Reading Club (SRC) is almost here and this year is packed with fun events, cool projects, and of course, lots of reading! This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities” and explores stories of mysteries, adventure, friendships and more that take place deep within the sea. It’s a wrap! Summer Reading Club 2020 has come to a close for this summer. Kids had loads of fun as we all celebrated reading with our theme, “Imagine Your Story.” And thanks to our online book-tracking system, readers of all ages were still able to log their books, movies, and activities and win prizes!
Summer Reading Club is back! Kids, teens, and adults can sign up for our fun reading program and earn badges and prizes for reading and activities.
Kids can keep up their reading over the summer, so when they go back to school they’re all bright-eyed and ready to learn.
Whether you’re a seasoned astronomy buff or a kid just discovering the allure of outer space, this summer at CALS will bring a universe of fun events centered on space and space flight. Many programs across our 15-branch system will focus on the CALS Summer Reading theme, “A Universe of Stories.”

Talented young musicians are inspiring kids throughout the library system with live music as well as a chance to put hands on musical instruments and even play the violin.
This free interactive music lesson with members of the Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra will take place throughout June and July at many branches of the Central Arkansas Library System as part of the CALS Summer Reading Club,
Honor or memorial gifts are an everlasting way to pay tribute to someone who has touched your life. Give a donation in someone’s name to mark a special occasion, honor a friend or colleague or remember a beloved family member. When a tribute gift is given the honoree will receive a letter acknowledging your generosity and a bookplate will be placed in a book.
