Summer Reading Club 2019: A Universe of Stories

Patrons of all ages are encouraged to register for and participate in our summer program to explore a universe of stories. Registration is available online at cals.beanstack.org where patrons can log their reading and other library activities, earn badges, and be entered in drawings for weekly prizes. Everyone who registers can visit their local branch library to receive a free tote bag and learn about other incentives and activities including our summer bingo activity for kids. We will feature weekly programs for a variety of ages across all locations.

Summer Reading Club registrants will also receive a free general admission ticket to the July 22 Arkansas Travelers baseball game at Dickey Stephens Park. Visit your library after July 1 to pick up your ticket.

Whether you read one book or 100, we want you to party with us. Join us for a fun day of crafts, games, and celebrating our summer reading achievements. One-man band Mister Morphis will perform at 10:00am.

Programs for All Ages

Kids

Each branch of the Central Arkansas Library System will have regular weekly presentations – including storytimes, crafts, movies, games, and performances – for babies and toddlers, kids, and pre-teens.

Teens

CALS also will have regular weekly presentations – including crafts, games, movies, and performances – for teens. All sessions intended for kids ages 12-19, unless noted otherwise.

Adults

Many branches of the Central Arkansas Library System will have presentations for adults throughout the summer. Williams Library and Thompson Library will have a weekly session for adults, as well.

Tommy Terrific: Space Magic

The show will feature magic tricks representing the exploration of space, from celestial objects such as planets and stars to exploration equipment, such as rockets and the space shuttle. Throughout the show, the kids will learn interesting facts about our universe and the history behind space exploration and be inspired to explore the information that can be found in their library about the Wonders of Space.

Be Mighty Little Rock

Be Mighty Little Rock is a citywide campaign to connect kids and teens 18 and under to free meals. Summer meals will be offered at several CALS branches, as well as other locations throughout Little Rock. Various activities are offered at meal sites to help children stay active and learn. Such activities may include reading or exercise programs, cooking classes and games, among others. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of this free and much-needed resource for their children. Our goal is for every kid and teen in Little Rock to have the resources needed to Be Mighty.

Need a Ride This Summer?

Be Mighty METRO passes are FREE for kids and teens 18 and under.

With a focus on accessing summer meals, passes provide unlimited rides on any Rock Region METRO route June 1-July 31. Riders age 11 and under will be provided a pass for themselves and a guardian. Passes may be reserved online at cals.beanstack.org and picked up at a CALS branch.
