CALS Max Milam Library in Perryville to Celebrate 25 Years
The Central Arkansas Library System’s (CALS) Max Milam Library, 609 Aplin Avenue, Perryville, will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday, July 21, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
The anniversary celebration includes a Sounds in the Stacks concert featuring vocalist and pianist Michael Heavner at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Historian Tim Nutt will provide a program on the history of Perry County and the library at 2:00 p.m. Crafts for children and refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon.
In 1991, the Winthrop Rockefeller Trust donated $250,000 toward the construction of a new library in Perryville. The gift was in honor of Max Milam, a Perry County native who had served as director of finance and administration for governors Winthrop Rockefeller and Dale Bumpers. The Library Services and Construction Act, gifts from the Sturgis Foundation, and funds transferred from CALS provided additional funding for the new building, which opened in July 1993.
