CALS and The Yarn

CALS is pleased to begin a partnership with The Yarn, the Little Rock-based storytelling organization. Beginning with their 2020-21 season, we will supply lists of books and other wonderful things from the great CALS collection that go along with the themes of the shows The Yarn produces. But we wanted to do a little preview now, calling back an earlier show. We hope you enjoy it, and we hope you’ll check out some of these items from CALS.

About the Yarn

The Yarn is a storytelling initiative founded in 2017 in Little Rock, Arkansas that offers a platform for community members to share stories centered on specific themes that reflect their lived experiences. Our mission is to amplify voices, build understanding and create space for human connection.

Through storytelling workshops and individual story coaching sessions, the Yarn provides opportunities for Arkansans to learn how to create and share their stories. Through staged productions and audio broadcasting (nationally through a podcast and locally through KUAR), we have created platforms for people to get to know their narratives and contribute to the myriad voices coming out of the American South.

After only three years in operation, the Yarn has accomplished the following:

  • Produced 17 shows highlighting true stories of Arkansans
  • Provided individual story coaching sessions to almost 180 storytellers
  • Reached over 1,500 community members through our live shows
  • Partnered with over 20 community organizations to reach storytellers and produce our shows
