Top 10 Things to Do in December

Yes, it’s December already, which means it’s time to start practicing writing “2024” over a hastily scribbled-out “2023.” In the meantime, CALS has enough events and new media to keep you entertained right up until the new year. (But seriously, where did this year go?)

  1. Shawn Camp Live
    • Celebrated singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and Perryville, Arkansas, native Shawn Camp comes home this December! Join us on Friday, December 8, at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater for a homecoming concert with the two-time Grammy Award winner. Purchase tickets here.
  2. Exhibition on Screen: Klimt and the Kiss (Dec. 2 @ 4 PM)
    • Discover the scandalous life and the rich tapestry of extraordinary influences behind one of the world’s favorite paintings with this movie at Ron Robinson Theater.
  3. From the Vault: Art for the Young at Heart (Dec. 1- Jan 27)
    • This eclectic exhibition features pieces by artists and illustrators whose vibrant works capture the joys of adventure and exploration. This exhibition was created in honor of recently retired CALS Deputy Executive Director Lisa Donovan, who was an early proponent and tireless supporter of the Children’s Gallery and Children’s Library.
  4. Watch a Holiday Film
    • There are so many ways to watch your favorite holiday films with CALS. Catch several of them on the big screen at Ron Robinson Theater (like Elf, Die Hard and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation). Check them out from the CALS collection, including several holiday binge boxes. Or stream from hoopla and Kanopy for free with your CALS card.
  5. Celebrate Noon-Year’s Eve
    • Why wait until midnight to ring in the New Year? Party at Children’s with the “Noon Year’s Eve” party, including a concert from mömandpöp.
  6. Complete the “Barbenheimer” Saga (Oppenheimer is in the collection)
    • While the film is currently showing as “on order” in the CALS collection, there is already a substantial waitlist for the 18 copies purchased. Go ahead and smash that “place hold” button and get in line. And if you missed Barbie last month, go ahead and borrow that too.
  7. Mobile Memory Lab at Terry Library (Dec. 7 @ noon)
    • Bring in your snapshots and physical photos and have them scanned into a digital file. (Bonus points – use these new digital images to share with family for the perfect Christmas gift.)
  8. 2FAN (Dec. 8 @ 5 PM)
    • Stop by our neighbors at UA Little Rock Downtown where we will be hanging out for 2FAN; you can meet Santa and partake in snacks. Check out the full list of holiday events at CALS here.
