Full-Time Positions

DEPARTMENT MANAGER – The Central Arkansas Library System’s Main Library seeks a positive, outgoing, and supportive Patron Services department manager who wants to work in a diverse and inclusive environment. Essential duties include oversight of all daily library operations; hiring, training, supervision & evaluation of staff; cash-handling; and scheduling for two floors. Candidate should have knowledge of electronic information services and library technology and must possess strong customer service skills and enthusiasm for working with a diverse population of all ages. Supervisory, leadership, and project management skills required, along with an open-minded and progressive approach to library service. Strong local community involvement essential. An ALA-accredited MLS, current work toward an MLS, or the equivalent of a four-year college degree plus three years related experience and/or training; and related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is preferred. Spanish language skills a plus. Candidates must be able to reach, lift, push and pull up to 50lbs, and be able to stand for periods at a time. Schedule will include some nights and weekends. COMMUNITY LIAISON – Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) is seeking a collaborative, proactive, enthusiastic, and service-oriented candidate to join CALS as a full-time Community Liaison focused on the African-American community. Our library system is comprised of 15 branches and 300 diverse staff members. The Community Liaison will be a key employee to help in our diversity and inclusivity efforts. Responsibilities for the Community Liaison include communicating with our patrons, businesses, and others in the African-American communities CALS serves and identifying ways we can meet their needs to advance CALS’s mission. The Community Liaison will also be responsible for making recommendations to administration, attending community meetings/functions, and helping build a positive relationship in the African-American community. Interested candidate should have a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations and communications programs, the ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics, the ability to express ideas orally and in writing in English, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments. Candidate should have a bachelor’s degree, at least 5 years’ experience in a marketing or public relations role or related field, or a combination of education and experience. COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR – Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) is seeking a collaborative, proactive, enthusiastic, and service-oriented candidate to join CALS as a full-time Community Outreach Coordinator. Our library system is comprised of 15 branches and 300 diverse staff members. Responsibilities for the Community Outreach Coordinator include overseeing outreach programming to include developing, planning, administering, promoting and implementing outreach opportunities at various locations in CALS service areas. The Community Outreach Coordinator will also be responsible for representing CALS at events, writing grants to secure funding for outreach events and programming, and working collaboratively with other staff members. Interested candidates should exhibit self-motivation, initiative, independent judgement, confidence in public speaking and the ability to represent the library to all ages. Other requirements include the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, knowledge of CALS programs and library services, the ability to meet the physical demands such as lifting and/or moving 15-50 lbs. on a regular basis, and reliable transportation to drive between sites. Bachelor’s degree plus two years’ professional library programming experience that includes youth, teen, or adult programming; or Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution; or a combination of education and experience. Part-Time Positions

LIBRARY CLERK – Part-time clerk-20 hours/week public service position in the Information Services Department at the Main Library. Seeking energetic, customer service-oriented applicant with exceptional sorting ability, great attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to work in a diverse environment. Essential duties include unpacking and packing interlibrary loan and MOBIUS materials, retrieving MOBIUS materials from the receiving room or Main collections, shelving periodicals or reference items, working circulation desk, and answering patron questions. Must be able to stand long periods of time, push and pull at least 50 lbs., lift, squat and some weekends are required. Salary is $11.05 per hour. Benefits include some holiday pay, paid time off and optional participation in CALS 457 plan with up to 2% company matching. HUMAN RESOURCES & BENEFITS CLERK – Central Arkansas Library System seeks a 20 hour part-time human resources and benefits clerk. Human resources duties include maintaining employee records, assisting in new hire orientation process to include checking references, organizing background checks, filing and other assigned duties. Benefit duties include processing and filing benefits and related information, maintaining benefit records, and assisting with open enrollment meetings.
