Take home a tool from Dee Brown today!

Each of the CALS library branches have a hidden (or maybe not so hidden) secret; special collections that you can only get at that specific branch. At McMath, you can take home native Arkansas seeds for your garden. At Children’s Library you can check out a musical instrument. And at Dee Brown, you can take home a tool. They offer everything from simple screwdrivers up to large format tile cutters. It’s a great way to test out a tool before committing to a purchase or grab something for that one-off project that you will probably never need again.

The rules:

  • Items are available to CALS library card holders who are 18 years or older.
  • Items may be checked out for 7 days.
  • You can take home up to 5 tools at one time (or 3 power tools).
  • Your item can be re checked out up to 5 times (if nobody is waiting on it).
  • Items must be picked up and returned to the Dee Brown branch only.

What all can you find in the Tool Library? There are several categories including:

  • Safety equipment (gloves, goggles, ear muffs)
  • Yard tools (rakes, pressure washer, shovels)
  • Automotive and bike tools (socket sets,
  • Home improvement (items for tiling projects, painting, drywall)
  • Electrical tools (voltage tester, wire strippers)
  • Woodworking tools (mitre box, wood spade bits)
  • Workshop tools (hammer drill, cordless drills, clamps)

Watch this quick video with Tool Library Programmer, Rachel Tanner (the brains behind this collection!) and get to see exactly what 500 tools (that you can take home with you) look like.
