Challenging Act 372

A broad coalition of authors, publishers, booksellers, librarians, and readers today filed suit challenging Arkansas Act 372, a law that would restrict access to books in bookstores and libraries located within the state, and in the process violate the first amendment rights of the state’s reading public. The bill was signed by the Governor of Arkansas on March 30 and is slated to go into effect on August 1.

Little Rock, AR – The Central Arkansas Library System is inviting the public to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Hillary Rodham Clinton Children’s Library & Learning Center (CLLC), 4800 W. 10th St., with ten events that will take place from March through July. All events will be free and open to the public.

CALS Announces Spring Friends of CALS Used Book Sale Dates

Little Rock, AR – The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) has announced the dates for the spring and summer Friends of CALS Used Book Sales. The Used Book Sale will take place March 9-11; with the summer Used Book Sale at Main Library scheduled for July 13-15 before it closes for renovations. Subsequent sales are anticipated to take place at the Port Industrial Hub at currently unconfirmed dates during the renovations.

CALS seeks RFQ from qualified artists

Nate Coulter, the Executive Director of the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS), has appointed a committee of local historians and CALS staff members to accept RFQs (Requests for Qualifications) from qualified artists who are interested in designing, creating, and installing A MEMORIAL TO AFRICAN AMERICAN CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS WHO SERVED WITH THE UNION ARMY IN ARKANSAS. CALS will select the site and provide landscaping and lighting as necessary.
