CALS Announces Not-Quite-Holiday Film Fest

Central Arkansas Library System Sets Food for Fines Dates

Shed unwanted library fines this holiday season. The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) is continuing its tradition of helping those in need by holding its annual Food for Fines event from Sunday, December 2, through Saturday, December 8.

Food for Fines gives patrons an opportunity to help others in central Arkansas and to reduce fines for overdue library materials.

The Central Arkansas Library System is undergoing a strategic planning process, and we’d like your input and comments.  As part of the process, we are conducting an online community survey.  We encourage all residents – whether or not you use the Library regularly – to complete the survey.

New Book on Rabbi Sanders Inspires Unique Dialogue for Sanders Lecture

The 2018 Rabbi Ira Sanders Distinguished Lecture of the Central Arkansas Library System will honor Rabbi Ira Sanders himself, as two expert scholars engage in a lively dialogue on his inspirational work and legacy. The Central Arkansas Library System’s (CALS) Sue Cowan Williams Library, 1800 Chester Street, opened a new business and technology center that offers patrons, freelancers, and entrepreneurs the use of advanced technology for their production needs. The new equipment upgrades include:

Mystery of Notorious Arkansas Murder Explored in New Book

The brutal murder of a young girl in the Arkansas Ozarks triggered shock and the threat of mob violence, followed by decades of mystery. Now author Nita Gould unveils the remarkable story in her book Remembering Ella: A 1912 Murder and Mystery in the Arkansas Ozarks, just released by Butler Center Books.

CALS and Arkansas Symphony Call for Spoken Word Submissions

Spoken word performers will join Arkansas Symphony Orchestra on stage for Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9: Ode to Joy February 23 & 24.

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra (ASO) and Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) have announced a collaboration in a spoken word performance event focused on themes of joy, unity and hope.

Jacksonville’s Toy Library Opens Sept 14th

The Wilson Family announces the opening of Gran Gran’s Toy Library within the Nixon Library, 703 W. Main St., Jacksonville, AR. 

Library members will be able to check out two educational toys per visit, on Wednesday & Friday mornings from 11:15 am-11:45 am, following the children’s programs on those days.
