Top 10 Things to do in February

Despite being the shortest month, February is home to many celebrations, including Black History Month, Library Lovers’ Month, American Heart Month, Valentine’s Day, Groundhog Day, and Leap Day. Celebrate them all with CALS.

1. Main Library Wall Breaking Ceremony

Tuesday, February 6 at 11 a.m., Main Library 

Witness the unveiling of the final renderings, hear special announcements (including details about the library café), and experience a final viewing of the vacant structure before demolition begins as part of a major renovation project for the Main Library building.

2. The Nail Files: Celebrating Nail Culture

February 21 at 4 PM, McMath Library

TK from Crush Nail Studio will give a short talk about Black nail art addressing topics such as social constructs, eccentric nail art and corporate America. The discussion will be followed by a nail art demo. Registration required. Limited to 15 participants. (Tweens and Teens)

4. Arkansas Sounds presents The Power 92 Tribute and Family Reunion

February 24, 7 PM at Ron Robinson Theater

CALS Arkansas Sounds is proud to present a tribute to Power 92 honoring the history and the influence of this Marconi Award-winning radio station. (all ages)

5. Black History Zine making

February 8, 3 PM at Terry Library

Creatively explore Pulaski County’s Black history with craft zine making. (adults)

6. Read Fifty Beasts to Break Your Heart by GennaRose Nethercott.

7. Watch Billions

If you haven’t already watched Billions, a show about wealth, power and when enough is enough, now is the time. The 7th and final season just became available at CALS so you can binge them all. Find the series here.

8. Horace Mann High School: A Legacy

Wednesday, February 7 at Noon, UA Little Rock Downtown and Virtual

CALS Butler Center’s Rhonda Stewart will be joined by graduates of Horace Mann High School to discuss their experiences at Horace Mann and the effects of desegregation on their school and their lives. (adults)

9. Black Family Expo

Saturday, February 17 at 11 AM, Pankey Community Center

Learn about families with strong ties to Central Arkansas and explore resources to preserve your family’s history.

10. Take Your Child to the Library

Saturday, February 3 all-day

Saturday, February 3 is “Take Your Child to the Library” Day. Celebrate by visiting one (or several) of our CALS branches. Each branch has its own unique personality and features. Explore our locations here.
