September 22 through 29, book lovers buzzed around downtown Little Rock, meeting authors, hearing behind-the-scenes stories, and scooping up copies of books; during all this, there were many moments of connection, learning, and joy. Over 8 days, CALS hosted 35 free public programs (most of them at CALS locations); welcomed 5,600+ audience members and students;
September has the most letters out of all the months, and it just happens to have the most events out of the year. Coincidence? Ok, yeah, it probably is. The fall brings so many fun things, but here at CALS, we’re buzzing about the upcoming Six Bridges Book Festival. This year we have a trio of workshops, including two cookbook authors and one about gardening.
We caught up with Lana Williams and chatted with her about her new book, The Container Garden Recipe Book: 57 Designs for Pots,
The Six Bridges Book Festival took place September 25 through October 1 and brought in about 50 authors from across the country. Monday through Wednesday, the festival began with a delicious appetizer – if you will – a series of virtual events, including Stephen Aryan, Ananta Ripa Ajmera, and Caroline Dodds Pennock among others. Then Thursday brought the beginning of the main course – all the in-person events!

My latest is a collection of one hundred very short ghost stories called The Ghost Variations. It was published, after many delays, at the height of the pandemic.

A Lush and Seething Hell is a duology of short novels. It was a finalist for the Shirley Jackson and World Fantasy Awards, and it’s an exploration of art and to a certain extent the sort of madness that trauma can bring to artistic pursuits.
