At CALS, we’re always looking for opportunities to give back to the communities in which we serve. And the end of the year always finds a greater need for giving. While we gather around our tables and give thanks for all that we have, it’s important to share with those who have less. For November,
Be Mighty, a partnership between CALS and City of Little Rock, Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, AdClub Little Rock, and Little Rock School District, that aims to provide free meals to kids and teens in Little Rock. Many CALS locations serve as meal sites where kids can have lunch during the summer or snacks after school.
Food for Fines is always a popular event at CALS. It’s a perfect end of year program that helps you start the new year with a clean (library fine) slate and also helps provide food for our neighbors in need. The annual Food For Fines program will take place December 11-17. During that time, patrons are invited to bring non-perishable food items to any CALS library to offset overdue fines on their accounts.
On September 1, staff from CALS and Be Mighty were joined by city leaders and partners to kick off Hunger Action Month. During September, citizens are encouraged to take a stand against hunger by sharing, volunteering, pledging, fundraising, and donating. Honor or memorial gifts are an everlasting way to pay tribute to someone who has touched your life. Give a donation in someone’s name to mark a special occasion, honor a friend or colleague or remember a beloved family member. When a tribute gift is given the honoree will receive a letter acknowledging your generosity and a bookplate will be placed in a book.
