Juneteenth Events at CALS

Juneteenth is a celebration held during the month of June in Arkansas and throughout the nation to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. The celebration originated in Galveston, Texas, when a regiment of Union soldiers arrived and were able to enforce the freedom of enslaved peoples on June 19, 1865. Since 2005, the third Saturday in June has been officially considered “Juneteenth Independence Day” in Arkansas. In 2021, Juneteenth was designated a federal holiday. Read about the holiday and the history of it in Arkansas at the Encyclopedia of Arkansas.

On June 17 at 7 p.m., watch 9th Street & Beyond: Black Communities That Sustained Us Then & Now  at Ron Robinson Theater.

Pick up a grab & go bag and celebrate Juneteenth at Millie Brooks.

CALS is proud to be a sponsor for this year’s Juneteenth in Da Rock presented by Mosaic Templars Cultural Center. Find out all the details of those events here.

All CALS locations will be closed on June 19 and 20 in celebration of Father’s Day and Juneteenth.
