About the author:
Margot Livesey grew up in the Scottish Highlands and has taught in several writing programs. She is the author of nine novels, including Eva Moves the Furniture, The Flight of Gemma Hardy, and The Boy in the Field. The Hidden Machinery: Essays on Writing was published in 2017. She is a professor at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and goes back to Scotland whenever she can.
About the book:
The Road from Belhaven follows Lizzie Craig, who is growing up in the care of her grandparents on Belhaven Farm in 1880s Scotland. Lizzie feeds the hens, takes care of the cows, and discovers that she can see into the future—but she cannot choose what she sees, and she can never change it.
