CALS Max Milam Library Invites Community to Dedication, Reception

The Central Arkansas Library System’s (CALS) Max Milam Library, 609 Aplin Avenue, Perryville, will rename its meeting room in honor of Charlie May Simon. Simon, a noteworthy author of children’s literature and nonfiction, was a resident of Perry County during the Great Depression and had a fondness for the people and lifeways of the region. Simon (1897-1977) is one of Arkansas’s most prolific major authors and was the wife of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet John Gould Fletcher. Each year the Arkansas State Library presents the Charlie May Simon Children’s Book Award for children’s literature in honor of Simon and her career.

Allen Jarvis, branch manager of CALS Milam Library, will present the library with a portrait of Simon that he painted. Following the reception at 7 p.m., historian Tim Nutt will give a presentation about Simon.
