A permission slip signed by parents/guardians is part of the form and must be submitted with entries.
Three categories for entries:
PERFORMED WRITTEN WORD
This category includes all forms of traditional poetry written with the intention of being read from a page. Although the poems will be read aloud, they are not specifically intended to be an oral performance. e.g. free verse, haiku, rhymed and metered forms, sonnets, villanelles, etc.
This category includes all forms of poetry that are specifically designed to be spoken and performed from memory, e.g. Slam Poetry, poetic monologues
This category includes works of art that incorporate words, e.g. blackout poetry, mixed media including text, painted words with images on canvas, etc. These works do not have to be “performed” aloud.
Poems can be original or credited. Entrants may enter more than one work and may enter one work in multiple categories if the work is truly suitable to more than one category (at the discretion of CALS staff).
