Sam Strasner: Documentary Preview and Discussion of What is a Wonder Boy?

CALS Butler Center for Arkansas Studies Presents LEGACIES & LUNCH

Speaker: Sam Strasner

Arkansas Tech University marked the 100th anniversary of its “Wonder Boys” nickname in 2020. As part of the commemoration, ATU staff members Sam Strasner, Taylor Gamez, and Daniel Gallegos, along with graduate assistant Stormi Leonard, undertook a project to capture that century of athletic success through a combination of interviews and archival research.

The resulting documentary film project, What is a Wonder Boy?, will debut in 2022 to coincide with the establishment of the Arkansas Tech University Athletic Hall of Fame. This Legacies & Lunch will offer a sneak preview of the film and an accompanying discussion about the process of documenting history in this fashion.

Sam Strasner is director of university relations at Arkansas Tech University. He holds a BA in journalism and an MA in multimedia journalism from ATU. A native and lifelong resident of Russellville, Strasner has served as the radio play-by-play voice for ATU athletics since 2002. He and his wife, Heather, and their son, Seth, serve as caretakers for Jerry the Bulldog, campus ambassador at ATU.
