NIFI Dialogue Series – Land of Plenty: How Should We Ensure that People Have the Food They Need?
While we have one of the world’s most productive and efficient food systems, millions of people in the U.S. still fall between the cracks. People who may have enough to eat today worry about the availability and quality of food for future generations.
This meeting will explore food scarcity using a National Issues Forum discussion guide and guidance from trained facilitators. During the 2-hour session, you will explore questions like the following in a structured way with other members of the public:
- Is the best way to improve access to nutritious food through efforts like strengthening our school nutrition programs and food assistance for low-income families, as well as improving access to fresh food in rural and low-income communities?
- Should we be paying more attention to the multiple benefits of food, raising public awareness about the parts of the food system, and avoiding food advertising?
- Is our lack of attention and care to the food system the cause, meaning should we be preserving our natural resources, choosing sustainable methods of production, and strengthening the food-system workforce?
Join your fellow Arkansans for this important discussion in person or on Zoom. Each dialogue session will follow the same framework and offer similar experiences, so please select one date to attend. In-person attendees will also have a light lunch option available.
These dialogues are hosted by the Clinton School for Public Service, the Central Arkansas Library System, and the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute as part of the Kettering Foundation’s Partnership for Democratic Practices in Arkansas.
