Lower and Petropoulos
Wendy Lower, the John K. Roth Professor of History and George R. Roberts Fellow at Claremont McKenna College, chairs the Academic Committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Her book Hitler’s Furies: German Women in the Nazi Killing Fields was a finalist for the National Book Award. A photograph brought to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum launched Lower’s work on The Ravine: A Family, A Photograph, A Holocaust Massacre Revealed in 2009. In the hands of this exceptional scholar, a single image unlocks a new understanding of the place of the family unit in the ideology of Nazi genocide. Jonathan Petropoulos is professor of European history at Claremont McKenna College in Southern California. He is the author of five books and has served as an expert witness in a number of cases in which Holocaust survivors have tried to recover lost artworks. Göring’s Man in Paris profiles Bruno Lohse, one of the most notorious art plunderers in history.
