Grab-and-Go Teen Program: Korean Honeycomb Toffee from Squid Game
January 13 is National Korean-American Day–ride the cultural K-wave and celebrate all things Korean.
Dalgona (달고나) / Ppopgi (뽑기) is a Korean confection sold by street vendors that is both a snack and a game. Vendors stamp the toffee with a shape. If kids are able to free the shape from the circle without cracking it, the vendor will give them a prize or another sweet. The game aspect of this confection was featured in Netflix’s Squid Game in 2021, which became the streaming service’s most watched series world wide.
This free, take-home program for teens has all the ingredients to make the toffee–all you need is an oven/toaster-oven and some oven mitts! Bags will be available at Roosevelt Thompson Library starting January 13, while supplies last.
