Coming Home (1978, R) FREE screening
The National Endowment for the Arts Big Read, a partnership with Arts Midwest, broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. Showcasing a diverse range of titles that reflect many different voices and perspectives, the NEA Big Read aims to inspire conversation and discovery.
CALS and the Ottenheimer Library at UA Little Rock are hosting a FREE series of virtual screenings centered around Tim O’Brien’s classic The Things They Carried, a 2020-2021 NEA Big Read Book.
Join us for Coming Home (1978, R) on Sunday, November 1. The wife of a Marine serving in Vietnam, Sally Hyde (played by Jane Fonda) decides to volunteer at a local veterans hospital to occupy her time. There she meets Luke Martin (played by Jon Voight), a frustrated wheelchair-bound vet who has become disillusioned with the war. Sally and Luke develop a friendship that soon turns into a romance, but when her husband returns unexpectedly, she must decide between staying with him and pursuing her new love.
