CALS Women’s Suffrage Book Club – Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers
Book – Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All by Martha S. Jones
Scholar – Courtney Bradford, Mosaic Templars Cultural Center
The CALS Women’s Suffrage Book Club is a book discussion series focusing on texts about the Women’s Suffrage Movement in the United States. Each discussion will include a brief presentation by a local scholar followed by a discussion of the book.
The series will run from April 2022 through August 2022. Each discussion will be held on the last Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Participants are welcome to attend any of the monthly book discussion groups but are not required to attend all five discussions. Participants who want to attend more than one program will need to register for each one.
All program discussions will be virtual on Zoom and live streamed through the CALS YouTube channel. Viewers on the CALS YouTube channel will be able to view the program but will not be able to participate in the book discussion.
HOW DO I GET A COPY OF THE BOOK?
Ten copies of each book are available to borrow through the CALS Roberts Library (local pickup at any CALS branch). These can be reserved through the Zoom registration form for each monthly discussion (NOT through other CALS branches or CALS.org). Vanguard is available for checkout as a book through the CALS Library Catalog. Or you can purchase copies through The Galleries & Bookstore at Library Square.
The program is funded by Let’s Talk About It: Women’s Suffrage, a humanities discussion project from the American Library Association (ALA) supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
