On Thursday, March 18 at 7 p.m. CST, CALS Arkansas Sounds Presents a tribute to “The Godmother of Rock and Roll,” Sister Rosetta Tharpe! Sister Rosetta Tharpe was a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and recording artist that became gospel music’s first superstar. Born March 20, 1915, this Black bisexual woman is widely credited with combining gospel, blues, and jazz music into a brand new style that became rock and roll and deeply influencing the music’s early pioneers. Our playlist celebrates the legacy of this Cotton Plant, Arkansas, native with rare clips and live performances.
