Books are a world of adventure, and with CALS, you and your kids can go just about anywhere. CALS is geared up for a summer packed with adventure, both near and far. Set sail with a book in the comfort of the Level 4 teen area, tour the greenhouse, follow the storywalk, or take a photo with Totor at Children’s Library, play games at your favorite branch on one of our many computers or tablets, or take a hotspot home to continue the fun on your own time. Children can even pick up meals for lunch or dinner.

So, what is Summer Reading Club? It’s a big ball of fun with free stuff for your family, daycare, or group to do this summer! Throughout June and July, CALS will be offering weekly programs for readers of all ages including grab-and-go activities, socially distanced in-person events, and virtual events taking place on Facebook, YouTube, Zoom, and other digital platforms. Some events will be live; others will be recorded. One of the most pup-erific events CALS will be hosting is the Virtual Pet Parade. Patrons can submit photos or videos of their pets from June 1-30, and submissions will be used to create a virtual pet parade that will be broadcast via the CALS Kids Facebook page on July 6 at 2 p.m. There will also be Storytime Live with several guest readers, Virtual fieldtrips, Bingoflix, and crafts, including DIY fairy houses.

Even if your Summer will be spent at home, you can have an adventure with us. Everyone who registers for Summer Reading Club at cals.beanstack.org is eligible to receive a free tote bag (while supplies last) filled with goodies. Each week there will be drawings for prizes done at each branch. To be entered into each drawing, patrons must earn a “badge,” after earning seven badges, you have completed the program! (Don’t worry, you and your kids can keep participating, every badge you earn gets you into a drawing for a prize.) Badges are earned by logging and reviewing books or movies as well as completing activities or attending virtual programs. And upon completion of the program, kids and teens will receive a free book.
