Staff Pick: Heather Zbinden

I’m a public historian who got so obsessed with yarn and knitting that I owned a yarn shop. I love grand history and pretty dresses. I’m addicted to TV and love to binge everything from Nordic Noir mysteries to anything British to Hallmark Christmas movies. When I do read, I want a series with a great story and supernatural flair.

I would recommend Foyle’s War to anyone who loves British drama, World War II and murder. Set in the small coastal town of Hastings, England, Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle solves one murder mystery after another between 1939 and 1946. At times it seems like more people are being murdered in Hastings than all of England. The acting is spectacular and the writing is captivating. It aired on PBS/AETN between 2002 and 2015 but patrons can check out the DVDs at a number of our branches and can stream it through the RBGDigital AcornTV screaming service (with their library card).  -Heather Register Zbinden
