Led by community outreach archivist Danielle Afsordeh, on December 12, 2022, several patrons gathered at the CALS Dee Brown Library to learn about how Arkansans have celebrated Christmas over the state’s history. With the help of kitchen programmer Justin Vess, the group also baked cookies using a 1923 sour cream cookie recipe from the collection of the CALS Butler Center for Arkansas Studies.
Food for Fines is always a popular event at CALS. It’s a perfect end of year program that helps you start the new year with a clean (library fine) slate and also helps provide food for our neighbors in need. The annual Food For Fines program will take place December 11-17. During that time, patrons are invited to bring non-perishable food items to any CALS library to offset overdue fines on their accounts.

This is not an exhaustive list of everything going on at CALS (you can find that here) but it’s everything that you need to be sure not to miss if you’re eager to don a Santa hat and throw back a little eggnog.
Parents and kids joined in the Oliver Jeffers fun Thursday, November 17. PJ Storytime is an event that takes place at the Hillary Rodham Clinton Children’s Library and Learning Center regularly, but this time things were a bit different. Guests were treated to dinner (soup, sandwiches and salad) while everyone hung out in their PJs (even a few adults!).

The Rock It! Lab is a partnership between CALS and Advancing Black Entrepreneurship that helps under-resourced entrepreneurs with access to resources,
Hoopla is an app that patrons are able to access through CALS for free. Patrons can “check out” movies, TV shows, and graphic novels. Recently, Hoopla has begun adding MasterClass to the roster of available videos. MasterClass videos are tutorials and lectures pre-recorded by experts in various fields. Currently, CALS has access to five MasterClasses,
