Get Financial Advice for a Changing Economy from AARP Arkansas

In a pandemic-rocked economy of job layoffs and instability, many people are searching for new job opportunities and reevaluating their financial circumstances.

For people over the age of 50, a job search may involve new digital tools, apps, or unfamiliar websites. To help, CALS is partnering with AARP Arkansas  to offer a live, virtual program on digital job searches.

“Job Search in the Digital Age” will kick off a monthly series of programs that will include several other financial topics essential for older adults. Knowing how to manage finances, Social Security, Medicare, and retirement planning will be more important than ever in these uncertain economic times.

This series of online Zoom programs with take place one Saturday each month from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. beginning on June 6 and ending in November.

June 6                 Job Search in the Digital Age

In the digital age, success can hinge on the shift of a mouse and the click of a button. Discover the latest apps and websites available to help you get hired! You’ll learn how to boost your digital presence and get your resume noticed by hiring managers.

July 11                 Sharpen Your Networking & Interviewing Skills

You’re so much more than words on a resume. Refresh your image and get ready for what’s next in your career. Learn how to network effectively, create a winning “elevator pitch,” and ace your interview.

August 8             Financial Basics for People 50+

Are you feeling overwhelmed by expenses or simply hoping to save more for a comfortable retirement? Learn how to build upon your smart money habits and make the most of your financial resources. We’ll discuss budgeting and setting goals, managing credit and debt, building savings, and protecting assets from fraud.

September 5      Social Security Basics

Do you understand how Social Security works? Have you wondered what the differences are between full, early, and delayed benefits? This workshop focuses on building an understanding of the implications of Social Security claiming decisions. You will discover what Social Security is and you will learn how to secure your benefits, as well as the future of Social Security.

October 3           Medicare Basics

Do you understand how Medicare operates? Maybe you have a general knowledge, but you’d like to learn more? This introduction to Medicare workshop focuses on building understanding of the basics of the Medicare program. Learn the A, B, C, & D components of Medicare, what choices are available, and where to turn for help in making decisions.

November 7       Ten Retirement Planning Tips

Does retirement planning leave you anxious, confused, or even paralyzed? Learn practical ways to help you achieve retirement peace of mind. We’ll discuss ideas for you to jump-start your retirement savings and things to consider about when to retire.
