Power Outages at McMath and Fletcher

Both McMath Library and Fletcher Library will be closed Saturday, July 21, due to power outages caused by Friday night’s storms.  Entergy predicts power will not be restored until noon Sunday, July 22.  CALS anticipates both branches will reopen for regular operating hours Monday, July 23.  Patrons should check this website for updates.

CALS Brings Digital Wizardry to Adult Learners with Free Technology Classes

Nathan Smith has a Lord of the Rings keepsake on his desk with a picture of Gandalf. That’s fitting, because as CALS Digital Literacy Specialist, Nathan works his own brand of wizardry to teach a variety of software programs to CALS patrons, all offered free of charge.

Librarian of Congress Visits the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies

On June 30, the CALS Butler Center for Arkansas Studies hosted a visit from Dr. Carla Hayden, our nation’s current Librarian of Congress.

Dr. Hayden holds a groundbreaking place in library history, as she is the first woman and first African-American to hold the Librarian’s office. She is also the first professional librarian to hold the post in over sixty years.
