Summer Reading Club 2020: Imagine Your Story

Sign Up Now for Fun, Virtual Activities, and Prizes

Summer Reading Club is back! Kids, teens, and adults can sign up for our fun reading program and earn badges and prizes for reading and activities.

Kids can keep up their reading over the summer, so when they go back to school they’re all bright-eyed and ready to learn. And adults, this is your chance to give yourself a great excuse to sit down with that awesome beach read or catch up on some cool movies.

Gift cards and trinkets and shirts, oh my!

The minute you sign up to “Imagine Your Story,” you can claim a free book bag at your local library branch, while supplies last.

And that’s not all—every time you read a book, watch a film, or complete one of our fun virtual activities you earn a badge.  Every badge earned will count as an entry in our weekly prize drawings. This summer, there will be even more badges and awards than ever!

You can win gift certificates and cool t-shirts. And if you complete a BINGO on our activities bingo card, you will win fun trinkets and swag when you turn it in, whether you are 2 or 92.

Ellen Samples, Youth Services Coordinator, is looking forward to the continuation of Summer Reading Club in the same fun spirit as always, though some activities have gone online to allow social distancing and safety. Fortunately, the Beanstack platform that allows users to log books and activities was already virtual and easy to use.

“We’re fortunate that we’ve been using an online system for registration and tracking progress for several years now, so we know many of our returning readers will be familiar with logging and earning badges,” Samples said. “Over the past couple of months, our programmers have created lots of engaging video and virtual programming. We’re excited about sharing those efforts with a larger audience now that kids are finished with school and families are looking for more activities.”

Entertainment and activities go virtual

Beloved programs that are a hallmark of Summer Reading Club will still be available online, so your kids can still see their favorites like Lela Bloom Puppets, Tommy Terrific’s Wacky Magic, Brian and Terri Kinder, the Museum of Discovery, storytimes, demos, and cool cooking classes or crafts.

Many libraries will be offering “grab n’ go” packets that you can pick up to do activities or crafts at home while you watch online at the CALS YouTube channel.

People who participated last year were very happy about their experiences with Summer Reading Club, which broke all registration records in 2019.

Rachel R. said, “I like logging books through the phone app, and activities and movies through the website. My children get excited when I log the books I read to them, and they love seeing the badges they earn during SRC.”

Casey H. praised the logging system on Beanstack as very user-friendly. “I like it that you can log as much or as little detail as you’d like for each book, movie, or activity.”
